| Implementing
projects in post conflict environments is a great undertaking which can
only be accomplished by a devoted support network, spearheaded by
selfless individual initiative. The Sharbat Gula Justice Center was
founded by Fareed Osman and Rebecca Lozano. A native of Afghanistan,
Fareed was raised in
the United States. Upon return to his homeland to serve during Operation
Enduring Freedom, he was inspired to create the center to refocus the
world's attention on the plight of women in the post Taliban 9/11 era in
Afghanistan and regionally. Rebecca Lozano is the Vice President of BankUnited, the most well capitalized private commercial bank in the United
States. A resident of Weston, Florida with degrees in international
relations, economics and education, she is a life long devotee and
advocate for literacy and socio-economic development programs for women
globally as the most effective means of resolving conflicts. She echoes the sentiments of Secretary Hillary Clinton, who has stated, "
“the suffering and denial of the rights of women and the instability of
nations go hand in hand.” The Sharbat Gula Justice Center is focused on
women's rights as a national security issue.
